WHY SALT

FUNDAMENTALS OF PILATES

+ Breathing

Breathing is the most powerful tool we use in Pilates to activate the sides of the rib cage, create connection to the abdominals and fuel to push through the most challenging of workouts. Deep breathing is also the easiest and most available internal cleansing mechanism we have, clarifying the mind, reducing stress and creating a greater, holistic experience.

+ Centering

Centering in Pilates is as much mental as it is physical. Students should consciously bring focus to the center/core of the body to fire energy from their “powerhouse” and center their body and spirit.

+ Concentration

Simply put, Pilates requires paying attention to the specifics and details of each exercise. By brining full attention to the movements and connection between mind and body, the vital benefits of Pilates are mastered to the point of subconscious reaction. That means a longer, leaner you, with graceful strength and a sound mind to go with that body.”

+ Control

Pilates is not a sprinting sport, rather represents the concept that your mind directs and manages each separate muscular movement with precision and pace. Totally challenging, Pilates requires resistance, both mental and physical, to engage and move with intention.”

+ Flow

The grace and movement that Pilates exemplifies manifests itself evenly throughout each class. The intention is that the fluid energy we creates during each class connects all body parts smoothly and creates even flow throughout your entire body.

+ Precision

Precision and intention is a fundamental principle of Pilates. Each movement has a purpose, placement and technique to achieve maximum success.

BENEFITS OF INFRARED HEAT

Infrared is radiated heat: the feeling of warmth from the sun on your skin. It is even the same form of heat emitted by your own body. It is the most basic and cleansing form of heating known to man.

+ 1. Detoxification

One of the biggest infrared health benefits is its ability to increase your blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins in the body.

Daily sweating can help detoxify your body as it rids itself of accumulated highly toxic metals (lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulfuric acid, and other organic and inorganic compounds.

It has been known for decades that sweating is a wonderful, natural way to get rid of stored chemicals, including heavy metals. When compared to traditional heat, infrared allows you to eliminate about seven times more toxins.

+ 2. Relaxation

Infrared promotes relaxation by helping to balance your body’s level of cortisol, your body’s primary stress hormone. The heat generated by the lamps will also help to relax muscles and relieve tension throughout the body, allowing you to relax and de-stress.

+ 3. Weight Loss

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, regular use of infrared imparts a similar boost on the cardiovascular system as running. As you relax in the gentle heat, your body is hard at work producing sweat, pumping blood and burning calories.

As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to pump blood at a greater rate to boost circulation. This increase in your metabolism will burn calories - in fact the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that a 30-minute infrared session could burn roughly 600 calories.

+ 4. Improved Circulation

As the heat from infrared lamps increases your core body temperature, your circulation will increase along with it. Consistent infrared sessions, can stimulate blood flow, improve muscle recovery, and decrease pain and inflammation after intense exercise.

+ 5. Skin Purification

The sweating achieved after just a few minutes under infrared light will carry off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing and immaculately clean. Increased circulation draws your skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface.

You’ll see improved tone, elasticity, texture and fresh color. Increased blood circulation has also been shown to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts. In addition, open wounds heal more quickly, reducing scarring.

+ 6. Muscle Pain Relief

Increased blood circulation carries off metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen-rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscles, so they recover faster.

Muscles relax best when tissues are warm, for greater flexibility and range of motion. The deep heat of infrared help peripheral blood vessels dilate, bringing relief and healing to muscle and soft tissue injuries. Infrared heat also reduces soreness on nerve endings and muscle spasms as muscle joints and fibers are heated. In addition to heating deeper into your muscles, infrared heat also releases nitric oxide. Nitric oxide improves circulation and increases the oxygen and other nutrients coming to help heal the injured area.
